Product Description

The Spud Inc. Magic Carpet Sled is a heavy-duty weight sled designed for maximum versatility and portability. At less than 4LB, it's considerably lighter than a traditional metal dragging sled, but gives up nothing in weight capacity—able to take on more than 600LB in steel plates. Use the Magic Carpet Sled on grass, Astroturf, carpet, or in any gym or training space with rubber or tile flooring. If it's a non-abrasive surface, you're good to go.

Go where most sleds cannot!

When your weighted sled training is complete, simply roll up the Magic Carpet Sled and drop it back in your gym bag. For athletes at any level, this is a convenient, effective way to build the posterior chain and metabolic conditioning with one movement.

Approved for the new Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT)

The Magic Carpet Sled + Upper Body Sled Strap - Black has been officially approved for use with the United States Army’s Combat Fitness Test, a 6-event readiness assessment that’s replacing the previous 3-event Army Physical Fitness Test in 2020. The grueling new ACFT is neutral across all genders and age groups, and includes a strength deadlift, standing power throw, hand-release push-ups, sprint/drag/carry, leg tuck, and a 2-mile run.

Important: The Magic Carpet Sled should not be used on concrete, asphalt, or any rough textured surface. Speed sled training on such surfaces can cause irreparable damage to the sled.

Attachment Length
Attachment is way longer than the ACFT handles so it feels funky when dragging.

Great but could use some work
Great piece of kit. One issue is the the reinforcing patches for the stitching on the underside Stick out a bit and can be rough on the grass. Better if those patches were instead an entire second piece of material the same size as the square. Reverse sled pull at least three times a week. Carry it in the back of my car with 2 45 lb plates. Easy , quick and it works !!!

Great for rubber flooring
We really wanted a prowler for our gym, but don’t (yet) have artificial turf installed and didn’t want to scuff up the floors. The carpet is a great alternative and the stitching has held up great so far

Magic Carpet Review
Would be a much better product if strap to hold weight was longer. The advertisement says it can handle a lot of weight but most people only utilize 45lbs plates since that is what is available to them. The length of the strap can only allow (4) 45lb plates. Bumper plates allow even less. Also when ordering this product or the accessories, you do not receive a carbiner to attach the accessories which is obviously pretty important to use the product. This means you need to go to a store or order from somewhere to even utilize the product.

Incredible fitness tool
I have been a trainer for 40+ years. This is now one of my best and favorite piece of exercise equipment. I have wanted a sled for years but they are all to heavy and inconvenient. I use it several times a week at home and at a local gym at home that has an indoor track. Everyone that sees me using it admires it and several are making the purchase to get one. I also share it regularly. My son in the army and I share a lot of things back and forth and he is going to get one for himself. I have also recommended it to other trainers and a couple of gyms I go to. They will be getting one.

Leading edge could be better designed
If used on grassy ground that is not extremely smooth, the front corners can easily fold under, turning it into a clump of material under the plates and dramatically increasing drag.

Disappointing design & quality: not grass friendly
I would like to preface my review by saying I have been a competitor in strongman, powerlifting and graduate of Human Kinetics (Kinesiology) over the last decade. All of that to say I am not new to exercise equipment or their design. I have used many different types of sleds over the last decade, Including spud inc magic carpet at a military base on Teflon tracks that seemed to work well. I received this sled about 3-4 weeks ago. My intention was to use this sled on a well maintained soccer field (with the pandemic it is free for use). The sleds do not perform well on natural grass. Even though the ground I am using is quite flat. By the second use I began notice design flaws. As the fabric is square shape at the front. the front left and right (that are not part of the skeletal loading strapping that is stitched through the centre of the sled) tend to fold under the sled as you pull which will dig into the ground and tear holes in the field. Further the middle front has a slight laminated edging. This edging also gets pulling under and damages the ground. By the end of my second use this centre edging was ripped and looks as if it will rip down to the plates. This ripping will probably make the original issue worse, like the complete front end folding under the sled. All of this to say using these sleds on grass is terrible. I have used to them on indoor Teflon without issue. It seems to lack enough structural rigidity (aka skeletal strapping up to the very front of the sled) to prevent it from folding and ripping on grass. As these sled used to under $100 for simple military grade fabric and strapping. Years later now cost $140 for the exact same material and design I expected the equipment to at least be usable on grass.
