An Affordable but Durable Bar for Group Training

As the name suggests, the Rogue Beater Bar is a budget-priced barbell made to handle regular high-rep abuse from multiple weightlifters of any skill level. With a 31mm diameter, the Beater is thicker than most Rogue 20kg weight bars, but is still a highly dependable American-made bar backed by a One Year Guarantee Against Breaking and/or Collar Separation.

The Beater Bar features Olympic knurling marks, no center knurl, and a black zinc coated shaft. The sleeves are bright zinc coated and assembled with a pin design.

*Warrantied by manufacturer. Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't Go Wrong I've had this bar for almost a year, I bought it for my home and use it multiple times a week for mostly powerlifting, olympic lifting, and daily WOD's. The bar still looks like it's brand new, good quality, the 31mm diameter is noticeable but makes the 28 or 28.5mm bars feel like toys when you pick one up (just ordered the Echo bar). The bar is a little noisy when you drop it as the sleeves seem to have a little more play than other bars I've picked up, but, for the price I payed and how sturdy it is, I can't really complain. Great bar to pick up on a budget for a home gym, Rogue makes quality products, I would definitely recommend it to others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good bar for the price Our CrossFit gym bought five of these bars several years ago. They are all still in service. We've bent a few bars, dropping them loaded on racks and safeties. But somehow these are still going. They are definitely not as smooth-spinning as the Ohio Bars and they rattle when spun! People do "fight" over the Ohio bars for Olympic lifting! Some people prefer these fat bars for squats. However, I will still keep the Beaters around for squats and deadlifts even after I save up for several of the new Rogue Oly bars. (Can't wait, BTW.) In general I find Rogue equipment to be very durable and tough enough to stand up to the abuse CrossFitters dish out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great budget bar I bought this bar almost 2 years ago. I bought it because it was a 31mm bar, i was looking for a wide bar to improve my grip. The bar has a great knurl, its grippy, but not sharp. I've had a few bars that had a very rough knurl that would tear my hands up with heavy deadlifts. The bar comes with a black zinc coating. I was deployed for a year and after I returned, i noticed the black zinc coating over the knurl had started to show some corrosion. The parts of the bar that did not have knurl were still in the same condition as new. Oh and this bar is loud, a very strong metal on metal sound when putting the bar on the ground.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid bar - hook grip? I have been Crossfiting at a local box for a while now and finally decided to order this bar to suppliment by gym WODs with some WODs at home. One thing I immediately noticed was the 31mm diameter thickness. I knew it was thicker when I ordered it but the size difference was definitely more noticable than I thought it would be. It will take some getting used to. (We use 28mm bars in our local box.) My question to others who have this bar is, "have you had any isssues using a hook grip with this thicker bar?" (Im 5'9" and 170# so my hands are not that large.) So far I am very pleased with the bar but I need more time with it to really tell. I will provide an update in a few weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING bar! I ordered this bar a few weeks before Christmas, and received it within a few days. I have been completely satisfied with Rogue's customer service, order processing, shipping, etc. They have been super helpful every step of the way! I was in love with this bar from the moment I removed it from the packaging. From the quality of the one-piece sleeve construction to the perfect depth and sharpness of the knurling and the wonderful black oxidized finish, everything about this bar is great. For $165 bucks, you can't do better. I'd pay 2x as much for this bar if I had to!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bar I just bought the beater to refresh my home gym with simple bar. It came fast, but the package was all teared up, and bar was coming out of it. I had to clean the bar and found some minor scratches on it. I contacted ROGUE customer service, sent some pictures and video as well. They reassure me that bar is still in good shape. I gave it a try this morning. It is a very good basic bar. Grip is different and it is a slight challenge. I found it very comfy for push movements such as bench and OHP, though. I am pleased with the bar overall. The shipment condition was major disappointment and that's why I rate it 4/5. But the ROGUE customer service were very reasonable and prompt. No complaints here. Thank you ROGUE. Ark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bar! Love this bar , as others have stated before its a little bit thicker. If you're like me and have been using the regular bars for years, then a great challenge, feels funny at first but once you start banging away its a non factor. Bottom line it's money well spent in my book. Few bless but no big deal, I sort of like that it adds to the garage gym feel. Shipping is A+... Thanks Rogue and Courtney for your quick response to my question on the P-4 pull up system I purchased as well. You have my business from here on out!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for Bought 14 of these for my box about 14 months ago. Didn't realize the shaft is so much bigger than normal, but that's on me, and actually it helps improve an athlete's grip on regular bars, so no big deal. They are already barely spinning, and loud CCRRRRUUNNNKKK noise is heard when you do any sort of clean, thruster, or the like. The ends are held on with a drop pin, not a spring collar, so maintenance is harder. If you absolutely need a cheap barbell, its not bad, but I wouldn't recommend for any kind of daily use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bar For First Time Users I bought the Beater Bar about a month ago and have been using it every day thrashing it around and its still in the condition like the day I bought it. Maybe I'll write another review after a year's worth of use but so far I highly recommend this bar for your first bar, especially if you are on a budget. Great for squats, bench press, and deadlift. Going to buy another bar that has whip to it though for my Olympic lifting. But like I said this is the perfect bar for doing squats, pressing, and deadlifting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Economical Bar! I have had this bar for about 5 months. I primarily use it for powerlifting/olympic lifting in my garage gym. Its a great bar, escpecially at the price. Well made, durable. I may upgrade to the Rogue Bar down the road, but for now this is a great bar that I can see getting many quality years of use. Would highly recommend this bar for someone that is looking to outfit their own garage gym and wants to get a quality workhorse bar for a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Bought the Beater Bar this past month, primarily for squats. Since I don't plan to lift over 500 lbs, I didn't really need a higher end Rogue bar, like the Ohio (although I think this bar would take it all in stride). This is a great bar. In fact after shopping all over the interwebs, I think it's safe to say the best bar out there for the money. I could not be happier. Don't hesitate if you are looking for a great bar at a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST bar for your money! I've used a lot of different bars over the years but this one is my favorite. Any time I'm asked which bar to start with I recommend the Beater. There isn't a bar out there for under $300 that can match it. It's very versatile and, unless you're an elite level lifter, there is no reason to buy a fancier (read: more expensive) barbell. The beater bar has been my work horse for about 3 years now and I won't be upgrading any time soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bar I took a long time to look for a new bar and decided to buy the Beater Bar. Great choice for my budget, the only downfall is the diameter of the bar, it was totally different from the 28mm ones. I work out daily heavy and dropping this sucker from top position and it does hold up nice. It is loud as someone mentioned. Bearings are very smooth, collars are a little ribbed to reduce plate slipping, and the grip is just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality on a budget I purchased this bar as a starter bar for my garage box at home. I have been abusing it daily for the past 8 months and it has yet to let me down. Sure it may not be your ideal Oly bar (saving up for an Ohio) but it gets the job done when you're cranking out some WODs. Yet another quality Rogue item that I've put to the test and you guys continue to keep me thoroughly happy with your outstanding products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't beat this bar for the price I wasn't expecting much when I bought this bar because of the price, but when it came I was really impressed with it. I'm not a competitive lifter and I have no doubt I can get plenty strong with this bar, I doubt I'll need to upgrade anytime soon. The bar is thicker but I can still hook it and use it for deadlifts without an issue, people with smaller hands may have some trouble gripping this bar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bar even better price Really amazing bar for the money. I was using bars from the box stores that would maul my hands on heavy lifts. The knurling on the bar is perfect and easy to grip. The extra thickness is not a big deal and actually fits my hands well. If you are on a budget and want a high quality bar you can't go wrong with this one. I will only buy my bars from Rogue from now on. Thanks for a great product Rogue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bar, Great Price!! If you are on a budget but still looking for a great bar, you won't be disappointed buying this bar. I've had this bar for two years and It hasn't failed me once. I've dropped it with heavy bumper weights and it's true to it's name. Be warned the bar is thicker then a normal Olympic bar, but after using it for a while you won't even notice it. Must have for any garage gym this bar is made to last!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Reliable Been using this bar for two years - in S. Florida and Columbus - outdoors (Florida humidity, Ohio winters). It's a champ, no frills bar that, as its name suggests, takes a beating. I prefer Olympic and no center knurl, and at some point, would also add a similar bar of smaller diameter. Great all purpose bar. Absolutely can't go wrong with Rogue quality. I'm a walking advertisement for them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bar for a great price I've been beating the crap out of this bar for almost a year now and I have no complaints. I did not have an issue with the bar diameter and just recently started using the rouge bar in a gym and had to get used to a smaller diameter but the transition was minimal. If you are on the fence about this bar let me tell you that the bargin price does not give you a bargin product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from American made makes a difference Ordered on Monday and received on Wednesday! Fantastic service and communications from order placement to delivery. I'm 58 and finally figured out that I need QUALITY gear to keep stress low on my joints. Using the bar for DL's, squats, flat bench and tri's. Bar is excellent with knurling that literally "sticks" to your hand without cutting. Will give an update in 6 mos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bar and great service I received my bar earlier than the expected delivery date, needless to say it made my day when it showed up unexpectedly early. Just in time to knock out double grace! Beautiful bar. I wasn't sure that I'd be able to tell the difference between a 28.5 mm bar and a 31 mm bar, but it is definitely noticeable. It's not a negative though. Thank Rogue for your awesome service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would lance armstrong beat me on a 200$ bike while i ride a 6k bike? Yes. Are there settle differences that may make this bar better/worse than something more expensive? Possibly...But for 165 bucks, that make this thing just as good as any more expensive bar out there. I toss it, slam it, throw weight and the only thing i worry about breaking is the concrete in my courtyard. This thing is bad ass, looks cool and stands up to the abuse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Value, Perfect for POWER Lifting We purchased 5 of these for our gym and they are work-horses of many work outs. With its comfortable 31mm diameter this has become the Bar of Choice among many of our members for Power Lifts. A good Oly Bar this bar really shines on Power Lifts. Best praise I can give is to say that we will be purchasing 5 more when we move to our next/larger location.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding bar! Only recently purchased this bar and it's quickly become my favorite straight bar. Knurling is perfect, deep enough to allow for a tight grip but not so deep that it grates the skin off your palms. Sleeves are perfectly calibrated for bumper plates so you don't have to fight to get them on and off the bar. Great piece of equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect introduction to Rogue equipment This is the first bar I purchased from Rogue. I was instantly impressed with the quality. It is thicker than the normal bars which I think is great for added training on grip strength. The only reason I rated this bar with 4 stars is because I have since purchased two more bars from rogue that are even better in quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good price, good bar. This is definitely what the name implies. Rogue "Beater" bar. You can drop it, throw it, slam it, burn it, whatever, and it will hold up. I would like to note for everyone though that this bar is not a 28.5mm bar. Just so everyone knows. So, it is a bit thicker but after a bit you just get used to it. Great bar!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bar! I bought this bar nearly a year ago. At first my training partners didn't like this bar too much, but now its the go-to bar in our home gym! It is well built, high quality, and has a professional feel to it, I feel like a professional when I workout with this bar! Thanks Rogue for a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bar Recently bought the beater bar. At first i was hesitant, figuring that for this price there was no way this could be a good bar. Holy crap was i surprised. This bar is awesome. Its a little thicker than most bars, it spins well when doing power lifts and i'm pretty sure it cold withstand a grenade!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bar!!!!! I have used this bar for over year and a half. I do at least 3-4 WODs a week. I still have yet to feel or hear anything loosening up anywhere inside the bar. Great product and I will be buying a new one for my friend that has been doing crossfit for about 6 months.... and yea he loves it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for personal use and on a budget I bought the bar 2 years ago. Still works great. The thicker bars helps my grip and a regular bar feels like a toy after training with this bar. The finish is coming off where I grip the bar, no big deal. I would recommend this bar for personal use at home. You will get value out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bar for the price! Bought this bar for my gym and has held up great! I personal train strongman along with some beefy boys at the gym and have put the bar through the test...we have had it up to 700 pounds dead lifting and around that squatting too....I highly recommend this bar for the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bar I bought this about 3 weeks ago and have been lifting with it since. My hands are large so the 31mm bar doesn't bother me at all. Its a great utility bar and wouldn't hesitate to buy 5 more. Plus, it looks great and rogue ships so fast you can't go wrong with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bar for a Great Price Bought this bar over two years ago and it has yet to show any signs of wear. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just buy the dang bar It's a bar. It holds weights. It works. If you want a better bar, buy that one. It's been in my garage for a year now, regular Crossfit use. Yes, it's thicker. Not a big deal. And when you pick up a regular bar, it's a treat. Just buy the bar and get to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great garage bar I bought this bar a few years ago for my garage gym. Despite heat and humidity (live in central Florida), the bar remains resilient. As the name implies, it can withstand a beating. Also, I can humbly say, that no missed lifts have been the bar's fault.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome!!! This bar is awesome!!! Great quality. Don't be fooled by the price. In this case, more $$$ is NOT better when it comes to a good bar for everyday use. Already slammed this bar during Thruster workouts and it takes the abuse! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If you can afford it I would get a more expensive one but it is not bad It was decent for a bar only costing $165 but it is not good if you have wrist problems because it does not flex well. It also has too thick a shaft. the bottom line is, If you are want to spend money on weights, spend it on the bar

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid bar, gets the job done. I would give the beater bar 5 stars as it does the job it was designed for but it has already developed a bend in it. The bend is in the central smooth portion of the bar (for my lack of better terminology) and developed relatively quickly. I am by no means pushing or pulling substantial weight, everything sub 300 lbs with this bar as i have another bar for when I am feeling big and strong. I do not drop of smash the bar either as i have concrete floors and iron plates so something would end of breaking. Positives of the bar are that it is holding together, the collars are not slipping around ,like my previous ancient York bar, and clips fit very well when i use them. When i do not use the clips, the weights do not slide around, which is a big plus. Anyone on a budget i would definitely recommend this bar, but if you have the extra cash, the powerlifting bar (Rouge Ohio Power Bar i believe is the correct name) may be worth the extra buck. The types of lifts i usually do with this bar are the standard compound lifts (squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press, rows, etc) and some isolation movements such as bicep curls and tricep press. I have not tried any olympic lifts with this bar. When I was messing around with some overhead squats (bar only, no weight), it felt awkward throughout the whole lift. Thinking i was doing something "off" i tried my wooden stick and another bar I have lying around and it felt fine. As i said, great bar for the price and would 100% recommend to anyone in need of a decent bar, but if you can spend an extra $100-$150.00, there are much high quality bars you can choose from. Thank you taking the time to read and hope you find what you are looking for!
