Concept2 BikeErg

The BikeErg is the latest innovation from the makers of the Concept2 Indoor Rower and SkiErg. Utilizing the same advanced engineering principles and PM5 performance monitor as those time-tested machines, the BikeErg is also lighter in weight than most stationary bikes and closer in feel to actual outdoor riding. The design is built around precision flywheel air resistance, creating a workout customized to any athlete who uses it. As you pedal harder, the intensity and challenge of the workout increases accordingly. At the same time, the inclusion of a clutch lets you freewheel like a standard bicycle, while a wide damper range re-creates the effect of changing gears.

The Concept2 BikeErg is portable, easy to assemble, and designed with an adjustable saddle and handlebars. Users can even decide to attach their own bicycle seat, handlebars or pedals (most styles are compatible) to create the ultimate custom indoor bike.

Rather than a chain, the BikeErg features high-strength, self-tensioning polygroove belts, greatly reducing the sound output and making set-up practical in any room of the house.

What Sets the Concept2 BikeErg Apart:

  • 1PM5 Performance Monitor

Included standard with the unit, the PM5 Performance Monitor offers a wide range of instant data feedback, including pace, watts, cadence (rpm) and calories. These statistics are then saved and stored automatically in the monitor’s memory or an optional USB stick. The PM5 has both Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless options, so you can connect to most wireless heart rate belts, as well as Concept2’s ErgData app and other third party apps. The PM5 takes two D-cell batteries and the power is generated by the flywheel when you ride, saving on battery life.

  • 2Flywheel & Damper

Like the Concept2 Rowers and SkiErg, the BikeErg uses air resistance generated by a fanned flywheel. This makes the machine directly responsive to your own output as you pedal. The inclusion of a special damper also re-creates the effect of shifting gears on a standard bicycle, as the user can alter the amount of air going into the flywheel. By changing settings, you can simulate the experience of a straightaway ride or a challenging uphill climb. The BikeErg is uniquely customizable to the skill sets and preferences of any athlete, regardless of size or experience.

  • 3Quality Construction + Easy Mobility

Few fan bikes can match the BikeErg for precision engineering, durability, and convenient portability. Set-up takes just a matter of minutes, and the unit’s lightweight welded aluminum frame + a set of caster wheels make it uniquely mobile for a so-called “stationary” bike. The use of self-tensioning polygroove belts also greatly reduces the sound output of the bike, making it a viable option for any room in the house.

  • 4Adjustable & Customizable

The BikeErg is designed with an adjustable saddle and handlebars, which can be moved both up-and-down and forward-and-back into a custom, secure setting. Users can even decide to attach their own bicycle seat, handlebars or pedals (most styles are compatible) to create the ultimate custom indoor bike.

  • 5Part of the Concept2 Family of Ergometers

Backed by Concept2’s nearly 40 years as a leading American fitness equipment manufacturer, the BikeErg is a worthy upgrade over an existing stationary bike or a logical addition for a gym already equipped with the popular Concept2 Rower and SkiErg. These machines are all built to last and utilize the same flywheel technology and advanced monitor system to give any athlete an efficient, consistent training experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Concept 2 BikeEtg If you like the rower you will like the bike. It is another great fitness tool that can be used for interval or endurance. The assault bike is not really built for long rides this is. They do need to fix the Concept 2 Erg app because when it tracks the ride it thinks you are rowing. I am a 60 year old guy who participated in CrossFit starting in 2011 at 54. After a rotator cuff tear I have had to modify many things. The rower and the bike are great low impact tools to keep doing WODS at home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome! Assault/ Airdyne better up their game... I've only just gotten home to play with my new order in the past day but I'm super impressed already. Feels incredibly high quality and smooth but can muster an absolutely crushing amount of resistance. I've always wanted an Airdyne or Assault Bike that could pair with my Garmin watch and now with a PM5 attached to this I can do that. Using the ErgIQ app with my Garmin I can track workout sessions with full time series data on watts, heart rate and 'stroke rate'. Distance doesn't seem to work right yet (however this may just be a Garmin Connect dashboard display issue and fixable by importing into TrainingPeaks or similar) There are a few things that I still think Concept2 needs to work on/ invest in for non-crossfit use cases for this bike (mine is primarily for guests at a rental property to use and I'm not sure it has the same level of appeal for that use case but at least it won't break down like many bikes). Ultimately I really think Concept2 needs to support an external display with road simulation (like an iPad with pretty graphics) and a cup holder would be really nice as well for those using it as a steady state cardio bike. Overall I'm super happy with it, especially considering the price but I do think with a little more work Concept2 could compete more head to head with much higher priced, more cardio-oriented general fitness bikes as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far a great addition to my home gym Awesome bike so far. Got it in addition to battle ropes and my rower for conditioning and cardio. The huge downside for myself (and everyone is unique) is the saddle hits all the wrong pressure points on my posterior. I will be upgrading the saddle very soon to get better use of the machine. Another issue I have is that for longer rides i like to sit with my torso more elevated, however, for my leg length the seat is rather high and I don't have enough up angle for the handlebars. Not a huge deal, but would be nice to have a little bit more geometry for the taller torso rider. Alas, it is a production erg, and all that being said it is still an awesome piece of equipment nonetheless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great machine (could have a better seat)! The Bike Erg is overall, a great piece of equipment. It is compact, sleek, light and sturdy. It gets the job done in a short period of time... My only complaint is the comfort of the seat. After putting an 30-60 mins a day on the bike for over two weeks, I thought my buttocks would have grown accustom to the discomfort of the seat by now; however, I am afraid my assumption was incorrect. I feel as if my ischium bones have been permanently bruised... The worse part is that my co-workers all stare at me and some even place wagers on whether I give off a whimper as I attempt to make a smooth transition from walking to the office to sitting down at my desk. It's an insecurity I never thought I had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice solid bike so far its a great bike....only one minor issue....cant find a way to covert the display from meters to mph..... other than that its a great bike and the price is good for this quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely solid, silent, powerful, and awesome. Let's be honest, Concept2 is a social network. With the rower, the bike, and the ski, they own the market on speed comps. Step into a facility and aim to compete (or measure your own PRs from device to device), and you are locked into the Concept2 calibrated world of PM5 metric. Thank god they've built outstanding equipment, so that we are all jointly investing in a great foundation. The bike: this thing couldn't be built or designed any better. No shaking. No rattling. No squeaking. No loose parts. No noise. I'm 6'2" 195 and I throw myself at this thing, and it doesn't give a micrometer. The seat is comfy. The handle bars are in the right place. I put the Shimano pedals on. I have absolutely no complaints and I wouldn't change a thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very sturdy! I bought this bike about a month ago and I am really glad I did. It was a toss up between an assault bike and this since I already had a rower. The workout is more "intense" and short on the assault bike but I can do more variety of workouts with this one and that was the deciding factor.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Its not short enough I am 5 feet tall and at the lowest setting I still cant reach the pedals. I wouldn't recommend it if you are vertically challenged like I am.
