When I decided to build my own garage gym, I researched for a long time about what to get. I knew I wanted to get a Rogue product, and I debated back and forth between the R-4, and a squat stand. I can tell you that if you are worried that the R-3 is not deep enough, it is. And if you are only debating a squat stand to save some money, don't. Spend the extra to get a nice rack that you can do more with. I anchored it into the cement and am very happy with the results. I am a 200lb guy, and I do kipping pullups all the time with no movement from the rack.
This rack is good but there are better racks that Rogue makes. I only have 2 cons for this rack. First con is there are not numbers any where on the rack. You are going to spend sometime counting holes to put the J-cups in to get the bar level every time. This isn't a problem at first but then it will begin to aggravate the crap out of you. The second con is the rack is way to narrow. If you try to box squat or even regular squat inside the rack, you are going to smash a lot of fingers. Those J-cups don't feel good and aren't very forgiving when you are exploding up from a box squat and a finger gets between the barbell and the cup. This has happened to me a few times now. Other than these 2 cons, I love this rack. This is why I give it 4 stars.
Great rack from Rogue. I was a little worried before purchasing that it was going to be tight to squat in. After purchasing it those fears were swept away. It has plenty of room to squat and more. It is very solid and stable. If I had to make one complaint the pin and pipe safeties get annoying to switch around from squat depth to bench depth. And they are even more difficult for my wife because they're heavy! Thats just a small negative compared to an all around great rack.
I have used some Rogue rigs in local boxes but never used or seen their Power Racks. I had very limited space in my garage so I purchased the R-3. It had the best fit for my limited space and still was heavy duty...also had great reviews!
I am a novice when it comes to home gym equipment but the reviews are all right! Top notch, I have it anchored in my concrete and it is solid for pullups and dips! Plenty of space for squats. The 1 inch hole patterns make setting the safety bar easy and I lift solo without worry of injury.
Not to mention I assembled this by myself in a matter of minutes! Awesome product!
You really get your money's worth with the R3. This rack is built tough and can withstand a lot of abuse. Although my landlord is not a fan of drilling the rack into my basement floor, I have found it stable enough to use without screwing into the floor. HOWEVER, I highly recommend bolting this to the floor for added stability and safety. Working out without a spotter is no issue with this system. The spotter bars are great and the West Side Hole pattern in the bench press range are frequent enough to meet any size person's comfort. The J-Cups are also sturdy and feel secure with heavy weight. Lastly, the pull-up par is the perfect height for me being 5'11'' and the additional fat bar is a nice bonus.
This rack is simply incredible. As "bicktrav" said there is absolutely nothing I would change to this rack. I was a little concerned about the depth of it when I bought it, but once I got it set up, I was very happy with my purchase. I love the 1" holes through the bench area, the skinny and fat pull up bars allow for awesome variations and having band pegs that you can adjust by the holes in the bottom is something very beneficial as well. The spotter pipes exceeded my expectations also. I was thinking of going with the safety straps for this rack, but once I saw the pipes, I immediately knew they would stand up to a ridiculous about of weight. Again Westside Barbell + Rogue Fitness = #1 forever.
It's pretty rare that you get something and find no areas for improvement. That's the case with the R3; I literally can't think of any way it could be better. The dimensions are perfect for garage use--enough room in the cage to do any lift you want, but small enough to allow room to park your car/store things etc. The quality is absolutely top-notch--built like a tank. Very well thought-out pull-up bar configurations; excellent hole spacing in the rack; and the possibility for endless attachments. I really wish I could give this thing more than 5 stars. Couldn't be happier with it.
I bought this rack about 6 months ago and so I've gotten quite a bit of use out of it. It is everything I could have hoped for. Because I plan on moving sometime in the next few years, I didn't bolt it to the concrete but to a makeshift platform. Even still, the rack has been extremely sturdy.
The pullup bars and hole pattern are awesome as well. For the price, nothing beats this rack!
Bought this rack about 6 months ago and have been using it heavily. I lift heavy and alone so it's 1 inch spacing in the bench/squat zone is key. I got the saftey straps and really like them as they won't damage the bar if I do rack pulls. When bolted down it's solid and able to handle very high band tension.
I highly recommend this rack and am already saving up to buy more things for my gym from this company
This rack is top notch. I had been using a body solid half rack prior to this, but I was beginning to become uncomfortable with squatting 80-90% max weight with only the safeties of a half rack. I train alone, and if I passed out or failed I did not want to kill myself. This rack is completely solid and I trust it with my life. This fit and finish is fantastic, super high quality. The fat/skinny pull-up bar is also awesome, really like the fat bar as it makes my forearms burn when chinning.
I was hesitant to buy a rack that had to be bolted to the floor. I have a single stall garage so I didn't want to lose my only garage space if I needed to work on my car for an afternoon or something. I utilized concrete anchors in which you pound the threaded portion into the concrete, and then had a nut/washer that tightened down on the rack feet. This allows me to unbolt the rack and move it if needed, while remaining super solid. Although expensive, Rogue really does deliver the best value out there.
