Product Description

The MG-4C is the latest evolution of the Rogue specialty multi-grip barbell, available here with a 3.5” cambered frame (a Flat Frame and Narrow Camber version are sold separately). Our patent pending design offers two major advantages over other multi-grip bars on the market:

  1. The sleeves rotate in the style of a standard barbell and come in your choice of two nearly indestructible finishes.
  2. Athletes can select both the width and angle of the handles, building a bar that is optimized for their size and training preferences.

The MG-4C’s friction welded sleeves, which are available with 9” of loadable length or 15.5” of loadable length, use the same internal components as our standard barbells and rotate on shafts made from the same stainless steel as our power bars. The distance between the sleeves is also the standard 51.5”, making the bar rackable on any Rogue power rack, squat stand, rig, or bench.

MG-4C Camber Multi-Grip Bar

Two Sleeve Length Options (Both are Rackable):

  • 15.5” of Loadable Sleeve Space - 55 LB unloaded bar weight (frame + sleeves + 2 handles). Available with stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish.
  • 9” of Loadable Sleeve Space - 45 LB unloaded bar weight (frame + sleeves + 2 handles). Available with stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish.

*The shaft is stainless steel in all versions, regardless of sleeve finish or length.

In addition to the pair of straight 28.5mm handles included standard with the MG-4C, customers can order more handle pairs from the dropdown menu in a range of configurations.

ADDITIONAL HANDLE PAIR OPTIONS (AT VARIABLE COST):

  • 28.5mm - Straight, 10-degree, 12-degree, 14-degree, 16-degree, 18-degree, or 20-degree angle. Stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish.
  • 32mm - Straight, 16-degree, or 20-degree angle. Stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish. [The straight 32mm handles include a center knurl mark for assisting the customer in finding the center of the handle].

All handle types have the same knurl pattern as our Ohio Bars and can be added to the frame at 1-inch intervals, meaning that a set can be functionally spaced anywhere from a minimum of 6” to a maximum of 26” apart. This enables athletes to customize their bar for multiple movements—from close grip presses and triceps work to biomechanically optimized grips at shoulder-width and beyond.

The sleeves, handles, and hardware of the MG-4C are all finished in your choice of either stainless steel or our proprietary matte black finish. Both of these extremely durable, corrosion-resistant options will maintain the look and performance of the sleeves across daily use. And because the proprietary matte black finish doesn’t add any thickness when applied, customers can expect that both the stainless and black handle options will feel exactly as they would coming straight out of the lathe. Note: The handle and bolt finish will match your selected sleeve finish.

The 41” frame portion of the bar is built from 1.5” x 1.5” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” plates, a machined socket, and a matte black powder coat finish. The cambered shape with 3.5” of drop allows for a greater range of motion when using the outer handles on certain movements (such as bench or rows), and also helps to improve stability, as the bar’s center of mass–relative to hand placement–is lower.

The sleeves are assembled to the shafts by our barbell assembly team, but to save on shipping costs, we developed a unique interlocking taper design that allows for easy assembly with a single nut using the included wrench. The joint created by this interlocking taper is every bit as strong as a weld, and will hold up to whatever an athlete throws at it. Even after the nut is removed, it takes a lot of force with a mallet to free the shaft from the socket (something to keep in mind if you decide to change to a different sleeve length at a later date)

IMPORTANT: The MG-4C Bar ships with the sleeve assemblies and handles disconnected from the frame, but all required hardware and tools for assembly are provided, including a set of 5/16” allen keys + 1/2” x 2-½” button heads bolts for the handles and a 1.5” Monster Wrench for securing the sleeve to the frame.

Key Features of the MG-4 Flat Multi-Grip Bar

Loading
1

Adjustable Knurled Handles

The MG-4C comes standard with (2) straight knurled grip handles (28.5mm outside diameter) in your choice of a stainless steel or proprietary matte black finish. With their threaded design, these removable handles can be positioned anywhere along the bar’s 41” long frame, using the included allen keys for attachment. Functional spacing options range from a minimum or 6” to a max of 26”. Additional handle pairs can be selected in the purchase area (at extra cost), with standard Straight Handle and two Angled Handle options available. Keep in mind, the ideal biomechanical angle for an efficient, safe lift expands as the handles move further apart. Rogue recommends the following handle spacing for Angled Handles when pressing:

20-degree: 26" or 22" spacing
16 degree: 18" or 14" spacing
Straight: 10" or 6" spacing

Additional configurations may work for other movements, as closely spaced angled handles may work well for skull crushers for many athletes.

Barbell Style Sleeves in 2 Length Options

Available in standard (15.5” loadable length) and short (9”) variants, the rackable sleeves on the MG-4C are built using the same construction methods and components as our Rogue Power Bar, producing a smooth rotation. The two quality sleeve finish options (stainless steel and proprietary matte black) also help eliminate paint chipping and maximize the bar’s long-term corrosion resistance. Please Note: The sleeve assemblies ship disconnected from the frame and can be attached using the included 1.5” Monster Wrench. They can also be removed and replaced, but removal will require additional tools (such as a rubber mallet) and a means of securing the frame in place.

Cambered Frame

The cambered 41” frame has a depth of 3.5” and is built from 1.5” x 1.5” 11-gauge steel tubing with 1/4” laser-cut plates and a machined socket. Mounting holes for the handles are 1” on center all along the sides, and the frame is finished in the same soft touch matte black powdercoat as our recently released RM43 line of racks. The cambered shape allows for a greater range of motion when using the outer handles on certain movements (such as bench or rows), and also helps to improve stability and reduce wobbling, as the bar’s center of mass–relative to hand placement–is lower.

Interlocking Taper Design and Machined Nut

The shaft of the sleeve connects to the frame using an interlocking taper; a staple of the machine tool industry for more than a century. The conical shape of the shaft is inserted into a conical cylinder that, when tightened with the machined hex nut, creates an extremely rigid joint.

I Don’t understand the hate toward this bar
I was very excited when this bar first came out, but with all the initial reviews that had a few massive complaints (unstable, to big) I was turned off and discouraged from the bar at the price it was being sold at. I ended up seeing it on sale and had family suggest buying it since I always wanted one. Had some extra money for A bday gift and bought the bar. I had low expectations for the bar Intialy and to be honest to a degree was looking for issues and what people were saying to see if it was true, again very low expectations. But to be honest when I started putting the bar togther and actuly used the bar I really liked the bar… like really liked it. I’ve used a lot of milt grip camber bars and this is probably my favorite. And again I was looking for issues, esspicsly when I a bar is priced so much to me it better do it’s job we’ll… I’m more then happy to call out bad gear but this bar in my opinion gets alot of undeserved hate. 1) unstable build: I’ve heard a few people say the bar is unsteady and has a poor build to it, making it unsafe for lifts and just dangerous. I did not have that experience at all. Putting the bar togther was way and when everything was applied properly and secured it was built like a tank. Had no problems with build even with heavy weights. 2) unbalanced/unsteady: i head alot of people saying the bar is unsteady and because of its width makes it unstable/balanced masking it dangerous… personally (I could be wrong) I think those comments are from people who aren’t very familiar with a multi grip bar. I’ve used a kabuki kadilac bar for awhile and I loved it but when I first used it was difficult to understand the balance and how to use it: it’s a completly diffrent way of benching and requires practice and learning how to balance the bar. I droped my weight and then it got easier and built my weight back up. Eventually I found a rogue MG3 multi grip bar at one of my gyms and used it, and that was very unsteady, but again it’s build a diffrent way compared to the camber. A camber has the weight coming down which is much easier to balance, compared to a non cambered that had the weight flat increasing the difficult because the balance is evenly split with no assistance from gravity. Also the length of the MG4 camber is the same as the MG3 which was considered at one point the good standard of multi grip bars. So when I used the MG4 I’m like oh it’s going to be unstable but no it wasn’t at all, took some time to get used to but I found it out off all the multi grip bars to use it was the easiest to use. Loved the option to change grips. Cons: price is exspensive yes… idk if it’s worth the price it’s alot but that’s up to the buyer to decide. My bar had small blemishes that weren’t a huge deal breaker but would have been nice not to have esspicsly with a bar that price form Rogue. Other than that I really enjoy this bar, very excited to use it and hope this helps with anyone considering it.

Best multi grip bar available
This is the best cambered bar you can buy. Although it can be a little pricey should you purchase multiple extra handles, the versatility is unmatched. I owned the kabuki bar which is a great bar but the thick grips killed my wrists. Having the same grips that are on my straight bar works best for me. Some people complain about the width of the bar but I find it to be a nonissue. Another great made in the USA offering by Rogue.

extremely unbalanced
I bought this a few months ago and tried to give it a chance but it is just poorly designed. Its extremely unbalanced to the point of danger in certain workouts.

Great Bar
I was about exchange this bar for the narrow version prior to opening the packaging and rogue sent me the returning instructions with no problem. I then decided to open the packing and see for myself why the narrow one "is so much better" Like I read on reviews and saw on YouTube videos. I came to realize after a few different workouts that I really like this bar and decided to keep it. No problem with balancing, width, or length of the bar what so ever and very well made. The only reason it got 4 stars and not 5 is because I was under the impression that since I ordered a few more grips in 32mm stainless, that rogue would include a 32mm grip instead of the 28mm that the bar originally comes with. So I now have 2 28mm grips as paper weight.

Great Tool
I bought this in July and got it near the end of it. I had to have my bar replaced as one of the sleeves would not go in all the way but Rogue made things right. Overall this bar is pretty great. I got the short sleeves which I highly recommend. I also got one of each handle so I wont need to move them around. Some people say it wobbles but I have not had any issues with stability on it and I have gone close to 300# with no issue. It may be an issue if you have a smaller hand or are off center.

Poorly design bar despite a great look
I am a huge fan of Rogue and dozens of their products . I have always been extremely pleased by their stellar products. I wish it was the case here as well… I have bought this bar a few weeks ago and am disappointed about it. While it is a great looking bar, super easy to assemble, with big sturdy hardware, the bar is ultimately extremely unstable and wobble a LOT, making the heavy lifts feel unsafe. Surely, the new narrow version might correct this pain points, making the « wide/basic » version unnecessary.

Excellent Bar, but....
Overall, extremely satisfied with this bar however, it definitely needs an option for thicker handles; perhaps the 32MM size that are now standard on the MG-4CN. Kind of wish I had waited for its release but, hindsight is always 20/20.

Disappointing
This is the first Rogue product I wished I hadn't purchased. First, it's not nearly as customizable as it seems. It's enough of a hassle to setup that you'll get the handles placed and rarely (if ever) change them. Second, the bar is just so unstable. Because its SO wide it really wobbles. And because of the width, there are really no exercised you can use it for other than bench pressing. Military presses or other exercises... it's far too wide. And the handles... I got the Long handles an wish I'd got the short. And lastly, it's just too expensive for what it actually is. Once you get the handles and finish... its far cheaper to get a different cambered football bar. You're not overpaying for quality, you're overpaying for mediocrity.
