Westside Scout Hyper
Folding Reverse Hyper Machine

"I do hypers before and after I squat or deadlift." - Louie Simmons

The Scout Hyper is a patented, foldable reverse-hyper machine developed by powerlifting legend Louie Simmons and Westside Barbell. This uniquely lightweight and mobile design features hinging legs that lock into place with pop pins and easily fold back for efficient storage after use (the total depth of the unit, when folded, is just 13”).

Louie Simmons created this model with home, work, and light clinical use in mind—with particular benefits for younger athletes or those new to reverse hyper training. The unit comes standard with a durable, round-edge pad (27.5” wide x 21.5” deep x 2” thick) to limit friction against the hips, as well as a nylon webbing hyper strap, two weight posts (5.25” loadable length), a set of spring collars, and 6” long handles. A bolt-on handle extension kit is also available a la carte for users who need to accommodate a shorter distance from the end of the pad to the handles.

The Scout Hyper comes with rubber feet (to provide grip to the floor and help keep the unit level) and a rubber-covered step for safe mounting and dismounting. When a workout is complete, the user simply has to (1) pull out and spin the pop pins to unlock the unit, (2) tip the machine up while pushing on the horizontal rear leg crossmember, and (3) press down on the handles to complete the folding process. Please Note: The unit stands up by itself when folded, but we do recommend either storing it flat on the ground or, if storing it upright, to do so against a wall and out of the reach of children.

Key Features of the Scout Hyper

  • 1Patented Foldable Design

Whether you train in a small garage gym or a large-scale facility, space efficiency always counts. The Westside Scout Hyper offers storage convenience with its patented groove folding mechanism, collapsing down to a depth of just 13” when stowed. It’s also considerably lighter and more portable than most traditional Reverse Hyper machines, making it easy to move, unfold, and lock-in before each use.

  • 2Unique Training Benefits

Regular use of the Scout Hyper can provide safe traction, pressure/tension relief in the lower back, and strengthening of the posterior chain. “We spend hours sitting or standing at home, work or at school,” Louie Simmons says. “These simple yet everyday occurrences place significant pressure and torsion on our lumbar spine leading to mild or even severe daily discomfort. That's where the Scout steps in. A daily prescription of three to five sets of 15 reps on this machine could be the difference from painful to pain-free lumbar health.”

  • 3Assembly & Safety

User assembly is required with this unit, but should take less than 30 mins. All required hardware is included. Rubber feet are provided for improved stability, and a rubber covering on the step makes it easier to get on and off of the machine. Please BE CAUTIOUS when folding and unfolding the Scout, and be aware of pinch points. If the red marking on the pop pin shaft is visible then the pin is NOT fully seated. Periodically check that the pop pin and swing-arm bolts are tight on both sides of the machine, as well as the bolt that secures the hyper strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hyper Awesome! The Westside Scout Hyper has been a great addition to my home gym. I use it to warm before squats and deadlifts. If you want to add more weight, I recommend using Rogue comp plates or steel plates, plus it's easier to load. With regular 45 lb. bumper plates, it barely fits between the leg and the loader. Not a big deal. Get one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My everyday exercise! This is the best home gym piece of equipment you can buy for the money! I have struggled with lower disc problems and this is a game changer for me. I love it. Well built and super easy to put together.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay but no magic solution for lower back pain. Bought this while recovering from a lower back twik, thought that it would help the process. However it seemed to re-aggravate my lower back discomfort even when my back was feeling better. I'm since back to normal training, wrestling etc with my back, but still nervous to throw the reverse hyper into my routine. Ultimately although often hyped up as a magic pill for your low back i didnt find this to be the case, I may want to try and sell it eventually but holding on to it for now. A little wobbly but very compact, never worked up past 90lbs on it but for a home gym it's very useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A review for people on the fence...... This review is intended for people who may be on the fence of purchasing the Scout Hyper after reading some of the other reviews. My personal experience seems to go against some of the critical critiques and I hope it may help others who are unsure if the Scout Hyper is right for them. So.....plate loading. I'm not sure if Rogue saw some of the reviews stating the sleeves were too short and couldn't hold more than two plates on each sleeve and quietly redesigned the scout hyper? Or if those people were using thick bumper plates? I own the basic cast Iron plates Rogue sells and had no issues loading THREE 45 lbs plates on both sides, so six plates in total. There was enough room left on the sleeves that I think I could have added an additional 45 lbs plate to each sleeve, for a total of EIGHT 45 lbs plates, though I did not actually attempt this and the spring collars that come with the scout hyper may not fit at that point. But I have other collars that would have worked if I loaded that many plates. Honestly, if you need more weight than that to perform reverse hypers, you're a beast and by all means, upgrade to something more substantial! the rocking. I haven't experienced ANY rocking.....whatsoever. I even got the lever swinging like crazy to test it, loaded up with six 45 lbs plates....and no feet rocking off the ground. I followed the directions when putting the scout hyper together. I waited to tighten any bolts until I flipped the thing over in the exact spot it would permanently stay. I THEN tightened everything down. This ensures all 4 rubber feet are perfectly level with the floor and I haven't had any rocking issues. It's possible my body weight could be playing a factor. I'm not a huge guy, but I'm not tiny, either. I'm 6' tall and just shy of 220 lbs. When I'm on the scout hyper, I feel very secure. It doesn't rock at all. Hopefully this reviews answers some of the questions you may have. You won't find a reverse hyper that takes up a smaller foot print and its nice you can fold it down if you need the extra room. I think it's a good fit for anyone who is less than an elite lifter or needs something to fit a small home gym. I'm very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Really like this Hyper Extension Bench! Well made and seemingly one of a kind. My only complaint would be Finish Quality. Not a big deal, but I expected better. (see pic) Strongly recommend this product to anyone with limited space.
