Rogue Thompson Fatbells

The Rogue Thompson Fatbell was co-developed with powerlifting legend Donnie Thompson as a revolutionary new take on the traditional kettlebell. With this design, we’ve made the simple but significant change of re-positioning the handle inside of the bell—set dead center and straight across like a dumbbell handle within an open-ended, cast-iron sphere. The result, as Donnie explains it himself, is a “perfect geometric shape for maximizing optimal performance,” as your hand and the bell essentially act as one. The center mass design allows athletes to improve the efficiency and balance of every swing/press while also reducing common kettlebell safety risks.

With your hand inside the sphere, “every single infinitesimal point on the surface of that sphere is equal distance to the center of your hand.” This dynamic reduces the shearing force on joints and adds more load distribution on muscle and connective tissue.

Rogue Thompson Fatbells are available in many different weight increments and include Rogue’s signature black powder coat finish. The 9LB, 13LB, and 18LB Fatbell feature an additional, second opening on the underside of the sphere for athletes with smaller hands.

What Sets the Rogue Thompson Fatbell Apart:

  • 1A Donnie Thompson Innovation

For Donnie Thompson, decades of experience as both a champion powerlifter and world renowned trainer went into conceptualizing this new breed of kettlebell. Since his first sketch of a spheroid bell with an internal handle back in 2006, the blueprint was refined and perfected into its current dynamic form. If it meets Donnie’s standards, it’s up to just about anybody’s.

  • 2A “Perfect Geometric Shape”

The center mass design of the Fatbell allows athletes to improve the efficiency and balance of every swing/press while also reducing common kettlebell safety risks. As Donnie Thompson puts it, this is the “perfect geometric shape for maximizing optimal performance,” as your hand and the bell essentially act as one. “Every single infinitesimal point on the surface of that sphere is equal distance to the center of your hand.” This dynamic reduces the shearing force on joints and adds more load distribution on muscle and connective tissue.

  • 3Quality Construction

Thompson Fatbells feature a solid, cast-iron construction with a black powdercoat finish and a grip-friendly ergo handle. The exterior design includes both Rogue and Thompson branding, as well as a color-coded stripe around the opening for quick recognition. All bells 26 LB and up have a flat machined base, while the 9LB, 13LB, and 18LB bells are opened-ended on both the top and bottom, providing an alternative option for athletes with smaller hands.

  • 4Wide Range of Sizes

Whether you want to order a couple sets of Fatbells for your home gym or equip a larger facility with a full arsenal, there is no shortage of options [see the size chart below or within the order menu]. Bear in mind that along with the diameter of the bell itself, the diameter of the internal Ergo Handle also changes depending on the weight of the Fatbell:
    9-18 LB Bells = 32mm diameter handle
    26-88 LB Bells = 37mm diameter handle
    97LB+ Bells = 40mm diameter handle

  • 5Variety of Applications

As a hybrid of sorts between a traditional kettlebell and dumbbell, there are countless ways to utilize Thompson Fatbells and incorporate them into your routine; from presses, swings, and lunges to snatches, cleans, rows, and more.

Rogue Thompson Fatbells is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 75.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's not a shake weight...actually give this a try i was skeptical too. Then I tried it, it has much more solid feel then you can imagine. Conventional Dumbbells have the vast majority (of weight)on medial and lateral sides on your hand; however by adding the weight much more evenly around the circumference of your grip it gives it an amazingly solid feel. I didn't notice the advantage as much with swings but cleans, jerks, and TurkGetUps, I was able to increase my weight substantially on. With the amount of occupational therapy patients increasing related to chronic carpal issues, I foresee these being an excellent alternative to many lifters who may have been forced to early retirement in their lifts involving heavy wrist stress. Don't put them down as a fad product, give them a try. Explosive full body, compound movements where grip is typically the weakest link/limiting factor restricting further gain in power/speed/hypertrophy is where this product will shine. Athletes, cross fit style regimen, military/officer training, rehab alternatives and similar dynamic groups will really benefit from this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love those Fatbells!!!!!!!!! I have been intrigued by the Thompson Fatbells since I first saw them on your website. I needed "a shot in the arm" for my dumbell workouts and these Thompsons gave me that. I bought my sets (9,18,35,44 and 62lbs) of Fatbells during the Black Friday weekend and love them! I use the 62 bell for swings and squats and the rest for bench and shoulder work in conjunction with my dumbells. Although you can only get one hand in the bell, you can also grip the side for more stability. Great innovation Mr. Thompson!!!!!!!! Can't say enough good things about them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "The one and only Fatbell" I was fortunate enough to try Donnie's prototype that is pictured along with the final manufactured versions on this website. I have presently the 9lbs - 44lbs. in my garage gym and use them on a regular basis. My hexhead dumbbells are collecting dust. I can't wait to add the rest of the Fatbell family to my gym. The weight of a Fatbell is so evenly distributed that it makes movements comfortable to do. I also use them with my Special Olympics Powerlifters I coach because they are easier for them to handle versus a dumbbell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I need in one package First. I've bought weights, and kettle bells from other companies. Typically when I opened the packages the things were busted up, the powder coat and enamel were chipped due to improper packaging. Not the fat bells. They came very well packaged with no chance of damage. I bought a set of the 106 LBS bells, and they actually feel heavier than a 110 pound dumbbell in my hand because of the way the weight distributes itself when you pick it up. So far I've used the fat bells for chest presses, Static hangs from a pull up bar, and walking lunges. I'm really happy with the product, and I recommend them to any strength athlete who wants to throw something new into the routine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Giant I've been using my 106 lb bells for some time now, and I love them. I'm doing swings with a single bell, and I can clean and press both of them. I see some folks didn't find my last review helpful. I'm sorry to see that. This product is not meant to replace the kettlebell, or the dumbbell. Lift some serious weights, and figure that out. The weight of the fat bell distributes differently. It feels heavier. I've found them to be a great training aid, and I'm thinking about going to a heavier set. A helpful hint; if you feel like you're going to fail; drop them and let them go. You won't hurt your forearm or wrist. I've pressed them to failure. I've lunged them to failure. I've cleaned and pressed them to failure. instinct helps your training. Go after it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Goodbye Dumbbells, Hello Fatbells This is an awesome product that when more people get their hands on them will become very popular. The reason I give it a 4 star rating is I believe the color coding could have been better. It's pretty sloppy and not up to typical Rogue standards and I would like to see more weight increments which I believe will come in the futre. I did a full review for those looking for more in depth information here: http://www.garagegymreviews.com/2015/11/02/rogue-thompson-fatbells-review/

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second Review: Still Great After Two Years! Bought a pair of 9s and 13s two years ago, then added pairs of 18s, 26s and 35s. Durable; and extremely safe and easy to use. Can do standard dumbbell, kettlebell and martial arts exercises with them. Easy to do swings, snatches and get ups. Been lifting weights since 1969, and these are the best resistance training devices I've ever purchased. There's a lot of movement wisdom locked inside your body that you haven't discovered yet. Open your mind (and your wallet) and get a pair of fatbells, then let your body teach you some new movements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Product Thompson Fatbells are a new breakthrough innovative way to train barbell free. The design allows you to really feel the weight centered in your grip and not lengthened out in either direction like dumbbells do, they are almost like an extension of your meathooks. I have them in my gym and whenever we have guests visit they tend to flock to the Fatbells. Hats off to Super D on a well designed product. Brad Hlinko Links Barbell Club
