Product Description

The Classic, Bare Steel Burgener & Rippetoe Bar, Now Made in the USA

Version 2.0 of the B&R Bar is built to the specifications of the bar’s original designers—strength training coaches Mike Burgener and Mark Rippetoe—with some enhancements from Rogue’s in-house manufacturing team. Along with custom-tailored dual knurl marks for Olympic lifting and powerlifting (including a passive center knurl), the bar now features a stronger 205,000 PSI shaft and an updated snap ring design. Quality bronze bushings produce a smooth, reliable spin, and the natural steel creates a great, old-school look and feel that few chrome/plated finishes can compete with.

The B&R 2.0 is a 20KG barbell with 16.25" of loadable sleeve length. Because of its versatility, it’s a great addition to a garage gym or a larger training facility or CrossFit box.

Please Note: Like any fine piece of machined steel, the bare steel on the B&R Bar will require some upkeep. Occasionally brushing the bar down with 3-in-1 oil or WD-40 will create a beautiful patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really does produce an unmatched feel.

F SCALE™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

OXIDATION RATE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

Still love this bar 3 years later!
I bought this bar in bare steel in April 2021 and decided to write this review while I was shopping for yet another bar. This bar is a fantastic all around bar, I use it for squats, bench press, press, and deadlifts and sometimes power cleans. It has been kept inside most of it's life with occasional oiling and has spent the last few months in a garage gym with varying Texas humidity. It's only just not starting to show a few small spots of patina. I thought it would happen faster, but it almost looks new despite regular use. The knurling is very grippy and feels really good in the hand. However, it definitely does not feel so good on your shins, so deadlift socks are strongly recommended. The center knurl may be a bit aggressive on your neck for power cleans, but I'd rather have great all around grip and a tender neck if I had to choose, and that's what you'd get out of this bar. I've used Texas Power Bars, Ohio Power Bars, and Starting Strength Bars and I would absolutely buy this bar again for general strength training. It's just a great barbell and you'll probably never want to lift with a coated bar again. Buy the bar. You won't be disappointed. Strongly recommend!

Should come with warning labels
Wanted a center knurled bar so tried this. Rusted almost immediately. Should come with a warning label "Don't buy this for a commercial gym unless you want a rusty bar" Maybe in your garage it won't rust. Have a lot of respect for Burgenger and Castro individually but for 99% of people the rogue 2.0 bar or even an echo bar is a better choice. Should also come with 2nd warning label "Don't buy a center knurl bar if you do cleans until you've tried it with someone else's bar"

Great Bar!
Was looking for a good bar with center knurling. I've used the Ohio Power Bar, but found the knurling a little too aggressive for my tastes. I would have paid for a coated version of the bar, but my basement is very dry, and don't anticipate issues with excessive rust.

An amazing, all around bar.
I purchased this bar to leave in my landmine and have been very happy with it. It has become my go to bar for deadlifts and any other exercise done outside of my power rack. It is the perfect compliment to my Stainless Ohio Power Bar.

BR Bar is my gold standard for general use bars
This is my go to bar. Dual rings, more of an aggressive knurl (great grip but not to the point where it hurts your hands) and that raw steel feel. Its also a little thicker coming in at 29mm. For me nothing feels more stable in your hand like that raw steel. Sure, you need to maintain it a little, but its well worth it for that great hand to bar connection. I recently purchased a 2nd backup B&R bar from the Boneyard. Still trying to figure out where the imperfection is..!
