Rogue Cast Iron Deep Dish Skillet

The Rogue Cast Iron Deep Dish Skillet is made from the same type of durable, ductile iron as our Deep Dish Weightlifting Plates; only it’s optimized here for your kitchen instead of the gym.

These skillets are cast exclusively by Acme Casting Enterprises, a family-run foundry in Warren, Michigan that dates back three generations. The use of ductile iron, aka nodular cast iron, produces a more robust pan than standard gray iron, with superior tensile strength and corrosion resistance. Once each skillet is cast, it’s sent on to another family business—Lockhart Ironworks of Logan, Ohio—where blacksmith Doug Lockhart brings his 40 years of experience into seasoning the pan for a great traditional look and long lasting functional performance. The pre-seasoning of canola oil also means your skillet is conveniently ready to use right out of the box.

Weighing in at 31.4 LBS with 3/8” thick walls, the Rogue Deep Dish Skillet can take some time some time to heat up and cool down, but the double-handle design helps maximize the cooking surface (to a bounteous 14.25”) and allows for a more balanced two-handed grip. The handles tilt up, as well, enabling the skillet to fit inside a large ceramic cooker.

A debossed "45"  and Rogue logo are cast into the bottom surface of each skillet as a nod to our Deep Dish Plates.

Worth it's weight
The Rogue Cast Iron Deep Dish Skillet is my favorite cast iron to use. It's big! I can make a dish that feeds 4 to 5 adults no problem. I preheat the Rogue Cast Iron Deep Dish Skillet in the oven while I get the food prepped, especially if using on the stovetop. Once I'm ready, I put it to work and the heat is even. Comes seasoned but a good rub of grapeseed oil inside, flip it upside down in the oven (put foil on the rack below to catch drips) and cook it for 1.5 hrs at 450 will give it a really nice even season like it's been used for a year. I use it in the oven, on the stove top, in a Large and XL BigGreen Egg, and on a wood campfire. I've cooked just about every on it. Steak, burgers, chicken, salmon, peach cobbler, vegetables, breakfast hash, quiche, pancakes...

Better than expected
It’s heavy and fantastic! I bought this augment my smaller pans and I’m glad that I did. I cleaned the pan really well after receiving it and re-seasoned it. It has performed very well with no food sticking (I’ve cooked eggs in it several times). It is over built and will last a very, very long time. If you want a larger cast iron pan, this is a solid option.
