Rogue Deep Dish Plates

Rogue’s exclusive Deep Dish Plates are directly adapted from the vintage-style machined plates we’ve used for the Elephant Bar Deadlift event at the Arnold Strongman Classic. Sold in pairs and available in four weight increments (25LB, 35LB, 45LB, 100LB), this line is 100% Made in the USA, bringing reliable cast plate production back home for the first time in years.

The extra-wide “deep dish” design of these plates instantly harks back to the classic cast iron plates of the past, which were used for all Olympic lifts before the first bumpers were invented in the 1960s. Historically, deep dish plates were favored more for functionality than aesthetic, as their increased surface area minimized the damage to old-school wooden platforms and rubber mats when dropped—but over time, they grew to be equally prized for their vintage appearance. With Rogue’s Deep Dish Plates, we have recaptured the iconic look and feel of that era while also utilizing the latest in modern casting, machining, and finishing methods, producing plates that are much more resilient than the ones that inspired them.

We developed this series with Cadillac Casting, Inc., a Michigan-based foundry backed by nearly 100 years of history in metal casting and an unmatched reputation for quality. As with our E-Coat Kettlebells (which they also produce), Cadillac casts the Deep Dish Plates from ductile iron, which has a higher tensile strength and yield strength than standard gray iron, along with superior corrosion resistance. Precision machining on the entire back, center hub, and outer rim of each plate ensures a uniform diameter and secure fit on the bar, and the electrically applied E-coat finish goes on thinner than a traditional powder coat, allowing for a lustrous finish without losing the underlying texture of the casting. E-coat is also known for its excellent adhesion, even coverage, and overall toughness.

Key Features of Rogue’s Deep Dish Plates:

  • 1Inspired by History . . . and the Arnold

If you’ve seen the strongest men on Earth take on our Elephant Bar during the Deadlift competition at the Arnold Strongman Classic, then you’ve seen the plates that inspired the Deep Dish design. Like those Arnold plates, the Deep Dish Plates are also a call back to a golden age in weightlifting; built from clanging cast iron with a classic look and greater thickness and surface area than most modern plates.

  • 2Made in the USA - Cast in Cadillac

The town of Cadillac, Michigan has a long and storied manufacturing history, and Cadillac Casting, Inc., has been a big part of it, designing and producing a wide variety of complex and safety-critical components for the automotive industry and other industrial clients since the 1920s. This reputable, privately owned foundry employs 400 highly skilled workers, and they were more than equipped to produce the tooling for our Deep Dish Plates in-house. In doing so, they’ve helped bring quality cast iron weight plate production back to the USA.

  • 3DUCTILE IRON

All of our Deep Dish Plates are cast in ductile iron, aka nodular cast iron, which contains strong graphite nodules that make it considerably tougher than standard gray iron. Ductile iron is regularly used to make automotive components, wheels, gear boxes, and machine frames, and its superior tensile strength, yield strength, and corrosion resistance makes it an ideal option for a long-lasting, extremely robust weight plate.

  • 4Precision Machining

The entire back portion of each plate is precision machined, as is the center hub (where the bar sleeve goes through) and the outer rim. This unique 3-surface machining process ensures that the plates fit tightly on the bar, are uniform in diameter, and sit flush against each other when loaded.

  • 5E-Coat Finish

This electrically-applied paint coating was also initially developed for the automotive industry, due to its excellent adhesion, even coverage, and corrosion resistance. As a wet application, E-coat goes on thinner than powder coating, resulting in a smooth feel that retains more of the natural grit of the casting.

  • 64 Weight Increments

Deep Dish Plates are sold in pairs and are available in four sizes:
    25LB: 10.87" (276mm) diameter, 1.35” (34.5mm) width
    35LB: 14.17" (360mm) diameter, 1.35” (34.5mm) width
    45LB: 17.72" (450mm) diameter, 1.97” (50mm) width
    100LB: 17.72" (450mm) diameter, 2.95” (75mm) width.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the look, sound, and feel of these plates These plates look great and the weight is very accurate. I ordered 25’s, 35’s, and several 45’s. All of the 25 and 35 weighed exactly that and the 45’s were all 1% over which is great. They also fit great on the bar. I had been using Rogue Echo bumpers for deadlifts and did not notice any difference in how they fit on the bar when I switched to these. They also have a very unique sound to them, almost like a bell. I would definitely recommend these and I’m keeping my eye out for change plates if they ever add those to the lineup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-round plates I have econo bumpers in the garage, but I was initially just looking for iron plates that were thinner and easier to place on my reverse hyper. So I saw that these new deep dish plates were available at a fairly competitive price (given that they were US made, machined and e-coated) and bought 2x45, 2x35 and 2x25. My impressions are very positive - these are lifetime plates for general lifting. I would say the heavier the plate, the better the look and feel. The 25s were good (my first order), the 35 were even better and the 45s were near perfect in terms of the old school looks and ease of handling (lip depth). The 35s also have the added bonus for being a great plate to use on the new Scout Hyper as the deep dish pattern means the lever arm bolt can’t scratch the plate like with a bumper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome plates -- need 10, 5, 2.5 lbs! Bought 8x45 and 4x25 deep dish plates and they are amazing. Old school, and super high quality. They ring like bells when you slide them onto a sleeve. All that said: 1) I've never seen the purpose of 35-lb plates really...you have 45s, and if you need 35, just use a 25+10. So please please please, release 10lb, 5lb, and 2.5lb matching plates!!!; 2) I don't see the purpose of a 100 lb plate. I use these new deep dish plates only for work on the power rack, and have bumpers for DL's, PC's and floor work. I guess 100# plates would be useful for DLs, but I couldn't imagine hoisting them up to a squat or press height on the rack...why bother -- 2x45 + 1x10 do the trick. Anyway....GREAT GREAT GREAT product, but do away with the 100s and the 35s and make 10-5-2.5! thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic Old School Plates, Must Haves These are amazing USA made plates. The finish and the machining are crazy good on these. They are a work of art and well worth the wait. My only wish is that they made 10's and 5's to go with the set. These are so great mixing regular 10's and 5's in with the set seems silly. Other than that I would highly recommend. Thanks Rouge for making these!
