Rogue MAS Wrestling Set

A mix of full-body strength training, friendly competition, and hand-to-hand combat, MAS wrestling has grown from a small regional tradition in northern Russia to an event seen at Strongman competitions and open tournaments across the globe. Rogue’s official MAS Wrestling Set—manufactured in Columbus, OH—includes everything you need to bring this addictive, high-agility sport into your gym. This includes a sturdy 90.875" wood footboard, two rounded end caps, and the 19.75" length MAS Wrestling Stick.

The footboard and endcaps are CNC machined from 1” thick Baltic birch and are hand-sanded and finished with polyurethane to keep the wood smooth and well protected. Each endcap features the Rogue logo and the MAS Wrestling USA logo, while both sides of the footboard are burned with the “ROGUE” brand and a pair of vertical lines spaced one meter apart, per MAS Wrestling rules*. The 1.25" diameter MAS stick is made from oak and offers a firm grip that won't tear up your hands during your matches (or rematches).

If you're new to MAS wrestling, check out our basic intro to the sport and its rules below.

Basic Rules of MAS Wrestling:

Similar to The Swingle Tree in the Scottish Highland Games or the Eskimo Stick Pull in Alaska, MAS wrestling is a two-man tug of war using a wooden stick, also known as the “mas.” In a match, the competitors sit on the floor facing each other, with their feet pressed against the footboard divider in-between them. When the match starts, both players have a two-handed grip on the mas, keeping it parallel to the footboard. The goal, then, is to either pry the stick out of your opponent’s hands or to pull your opponent over the divider. As the match develops, players can move their feet along the length of the footboard, but if they touch the footboard with their hands, they are disqualified. A coin toss determines which athlete gets to choose the stick hold position (external or internal) in the first match of a series.

Pros and cons
I'm happy to have a mas wrestling board being sold by a company like Rogue. It's great for the sport. The two pitfalls are: - this board is not competition spec. The board itself is not quite long enough to meet competition regulations. Rogue should read the specifications of a competition board and fix it, although I'm guessing the length was probably chosen from wood that was more available. - the laminated base pieces separate over time and will fall apart. I had to join mine back together with long screws. I live in a dry environment so that probably has something to do with it. other than that, I've got some great use out of it. Mas wrestling is honestly an amazing sport and I recommend anyone to try it. It's great for your back, and it not only brought my deadlift up considerably but allowed me travel opportunities for competitions around the world.
