Rogue SM-1 Squat Stand 2.0

Bridging the gap between traditional squat stands and power racks, the fully redesigned Rogue Monster Squat Stand 2.0 features over-sized 3x3" 11 gauge steel uprights, 1" hardware, and a bolt-together base with triangle plates for maximum stability. Each 73" upright of our SM-1 model also now includes a keyhole design down the side (for greater flexibility with a wider array of new attachments), along with a new Satin Black powder coat finish and dome tag branding for a bolder look. The unit’s base, triangle plates, and crossmembers feature the Satin Black powder coat finish, as well.

The SM-1 is the smallest of our Monster Series squat stands and does NOT include a pull-up bar option. The rack is manufactured in Columbus, OH, and ships with all required hardware and a set of Monster J-cups with UHMW plastic inserts and a signature, textured black powder coat finish.

This is a compact, dependable squat rack well suited to small garage gyms as well as larger affiliates and training facilities.

Note: Due to no pull-up bar connecting the uprights of the SM-1, certain attachments such as the Monster Matador and Plate Storage Posts are not recommended. Use of these accessories in conjunction with the SM-1 Squat Stand can cause severe injury to the user and damage the equipment.

Monster SM-1 and SM-2 Purchase review
Purchased a MONSTER SM-1 in June 2022 in Canada and MONSTER SM-2 in December 2022 in USA and am overall very impressed with Rogue product quality, engineering and diverse exercise attachments. However, both of the SM-1 and SM-2 SQUAT RACKS have an issue at the BASE of the uprights where they rock slightly back and forth no matter how tight bolt hardware assembly is torqued (approximately 2 to 4 degrees of play) when using the matador for dips (rear of rack) or using pins for band workouts in front of rack. Similar to a comment from another Rogue customer review (5 month review September 2022) also pertaining to the sudden jerky movement of the uprights; during my Matador dips or during my peg band exercises the upright movements at the base is a bit concerning with respect to equipment confidence during these movements. Rogue is an amazing company with incredible products and i hope they issue a field attachment fix kit in the very near future to address this upright movement issue at the base of the uprights for ALL the MONSTER SM series squat rack family of products.

Great Rack with one issue.
I really like this rack. The components are amazing. Coupled with the safety bars it provides plenty of confidence. It fits well in my low ceiling basement gym as well which is the primary selling point for me. I use it daily and would recommend it for someone with a similar low ceiling set up. The issue with my unit has been that the posts move back and forth. There seems to be too much play at the base that results in the posts rocking back when reloading after a set. It’s not major movement but it’s enough that between sets you will want to move the posts back into place before reloading to make sure the bar is straight.

It’s solid…
11 month review: this stand serves its purpose. The main thing is that the uprights shift regardless of placement orientation or how tight you have them on. This is very sketchy at times when over 500 is on the bar but the bolts are all an inch thick and the frames seem to be strong enough. I would expect a lot of upright shift to occur while spotter arms are in use but have not experienced this because the only spotter arms available cost half of what the stand does. I just wish there was some advertising about this pre-purchase because so many have experienced this as a surprise. Customer service was as as helpful as they could be when I reached out, but the problem is with the space left under the uprights by design. Overall it seems safe, but the shifting still catches me off-guard. If not properly aligned you can be in for some strange unrackings.

Garage appropriate and STURDY
I bought this rack and couldn’t be more satisfied, it’s sturdy and occupied a relatively small space in my garage. I can do all rack type workout except standing pull ups, head hitting roof, but honestly I’m just so pleased with this workout equipment.

5 month review
I purchased this about 5 months ago to replace a bench press and give me some more versatility in my home gym. I decided to go with the shorter height as my my basement ceilings are pretty low. Assembly was fairly easy, and quick. I was mind blown at the quality of the frame and overall rack. There was a problem with the hardware not showing up when the rest of the rack did, however that was sorted out and I ended up getting it together a week later. It definitely blows commercial gym equipment out of the water as this thing is built like a tank. I also purchased the spotter arms which are the most solid piece of equipment I’ve seen. It’s very easy to pop my bench in and out swapping between squats and bench press. The j cups are nice but don’t completely protect your bar as they’re not wrapped around. The only complaint I have about this squat rack is something I just saw another person mention, the uprights rock back and fourth no matter how tight you assemble them. I didn’t notice until one day I sat a barbell with 135lbs on the spotter arms and the whole thing shifted forward and scared me. There’s definitely a gap or something between the uprights and the base that has some play back and fourth. Overall it gets the job done and is still 100x better than what I was using.

heavy duty but safety arm pins don't fit.
heavy duty as is typical. Stand itself is fine and the usual Rogue quality. However the safety arms have pins that are too thick for the holes. safety issue big time. At this level that is unacceptable. Rogue has issues with machining. I have three sets of collars that don't fit the bars they came with. wish I could recommend but I can't

Uprights shifting
Recently purchased and it seems the uprights shift forward and back more than I would expect. I am not sure if this is a quality issue or there is normal give to it. I do not have the top crossmember installed as I am too tall to install for extra stability. Either way the issue seems to be at the base.
