AbMat Barbell Bomb

The Barbell Bomb is a lightbulb-shaped sleeve that slides securely onto the end of any standard barbell, creating the same functionality as a traditional landmine attachment. Made from AbMat’s tried and tested high-density foam, this lightweight (4 oz.) attachment is extremely durable and slip-resistant on almost any type of training surface, indoor or outdoor. At a length of 7 inches, it also fits easily in any gym bag, enabling fully untethered landmine workouts anywhere you have access to a barbell.

AbMat developed this Barbell Bomb’s design with Gut Wrench inventors Eric Chessen and Ryan Pitts, adapting their original product with a perfect spheroid shape and grippy exterior to ensure the attachment holds its position and rotates smoothly without the need of a rack, wall, or weight plates.

Along with standard landmine movements (presses, rows, rotational work, squats, push jerk, lumberjack deadlifts, etc.), athletes can alternatively use a Barbell Bomb on the opposite end of the bar as a grip-friendly handle during push presses or goblet squats.

Might not be for “Any” surface..
Was very excited to find this product, seemed like a very utilitarian piece of equipment and hoped for it to severely humble me. Just be careful, I might have bought into the “and slip resistant on almost any training surface”. First use was in the garage, built in the 60’s so granted should have anticipated years of oil, sealants, etc. But I have cleaned and pressure washed several times….the wife didn’t want her new dumbbells getting “stuff” on them. I digress, first single arm overhead press with a 45 on it ended in failure as it skidded across the garage and into the assault bike. So it did humble me, objective complete. Overall it seems durable and will try it soon on a more textured surface.

Get a tennis ball or a real landmine attachment.
I was hoping to just add this to an old barbell and then do landmine work anytime instead of having to set up my Landmine Attachment which would mount into 2 plates (which took some set up time). My hope was I'd do more landmine accessory work. If you don't put it against a wall or corner, it slips all over the place, unlike a landmine attachment. If you are going to stick it in a corner a tennis ball is probably better.

Multiple Defects and Rips - AVOID
I have bought a total of 6 of these for my commercial gym and after roughly 2 months of use, 4 of them have fully ruptured and are now useless. We placed them against a wall to decrease the risk of slipping, but both the 45lb and 35lb barbells punched holes through the bottom of the barbell bomb. I no longer felt safe with my members using them because the risk of injury was too high. I had to reinvest in the Rogue Landmine that is placed within two 45lb placed and have had no issue with those so far. As always, buy cheap - buy twice!

Saved my T-bar rows
I bought this a few months ago to allow me to do T-bar rows with a barbell I wasn't using because it kept slipping on the floor every time I lifted the opposite end up. It works great! I place it on the end of the bar and now when I lift the barbell up to do a row it does not slip. The bomb is thick and strong and has no smell - another plus. I have also used it on the side of the barbell that I hold to lift the barbell up and love how it fits nicely into the palms of my hands for an easy grip. So now I am going to buy another one so that I can have one on each end of the barbell.

Equipment Protection
Debated between this and landmine attachment for a while. Was previously using just a tennis ball on the end of the barbell and placing against the rack or wall so I decided to try this to keep that flexibility. Unfortunately the barbell still slides on rubber gym flooring when doing any low angle movements like barbell rows or when you lean into it like a Landmine hack squat so it still needs to be put against the rack or wall. It seems to work as intended in higher angle movements like shoulder press. Based on this I'd consider it more as an expensive version of the tennis ball for providing protection for the barbell, rack, wall etc rather than a true replacement for a landmine attachment. If you need the stability go for the rack or plate landline attachment.

I’m an in home trainer. This has opened up a whole new world for my fit clients. This thing does anything a landline can do for 1/2 the price and totally versatile by not being beholden to one specific space! Love this thing!
