Rogue Donkey

The Rogue Donkey is an entirely new beast; an all-in-one hybrid of our Z Hyper reverse-hyper machine and Abram GHD 2.0 glute-ham developer. Available as its own stand-alone unit or as a conversion kit for an existing Rogue Z Hyper, the Donkey enables athletes to perform reverse hyperextensions, rows, back and hip extensions, GHD sit-ups, and glute-ham raises on the same piece of equipment, with quick and easy adjustments for height and user comfort. This makes it a space-efficient and cost-efficient new machine for everything from core strength development and midline stabilization to lower back rehab and spinal decompression.

Built in the USA with 3x3” 11-gauge steel base tubing, the bolt-together Rogue Donkey’s first innovation can be seen in its diamond-tread GHD footplate, which features built-in side handles for doing reverse hypers. Using the convenient swing-arm adjustment system, athletes can easily shift the position of the footplate/handles forward or backward at any of 10 different settings (simply by pulling a pop pin), with 3 additional options for vertical height adjustments. Customizations can also be made in weight load, as the hyper posts each feature a loadable length of 10.5".

There are 3x3 steps on both the front and back side on the Donkey, making it easy to get up onto the pads for any type of movement. The pads themselves are 3.5" thick and measure 34" across in total, with an extended lip in front (to protect users’ hips from making contact with any hard surfaces) and a curved design in back more like our GHD 2.0 pads. There is also a removable middle insert pad, giving male athletes greater comfort and freedom of movement when doing back extensions with their feet against the tread plate.

The entire unit is finished in our Signature texture black powder coat, with rubber feet included standard to protect your gym floor and keep the unit stable. A pair of axle collars and a Spud Inc Reverse Hyper Strap are also included.

The Donkey Add-On Option

For owners of a Rogue Z Hyper who wish to upgrade their existing machine to a Rogue Donkey, we offer a conversion kit with all components needed for connecting the swing-arm adjustment system, GHD rollers and footplate, and extended base tubing.

KEY FEATURES OF THE ROGUE DONKEY

Unique Hybrid Design
1

Unique Hybrid Design

By combining the main components of the Rogue Abram GHD 2.0 and Rogue Z Hyper, we’ve built a new all-in-one machine with all the training benefits of both in a space-efficient, cost-efficient design. This includes a combination GHD footplate + hyper handles, dynamic contoured padding, and step-ups on both sides of the unit. Customers who already own a Z Hyper also have the option of converting their machine into a Rogue Donkey by purchasing our conversion kit.

Swing Arm Adjustments
2

Swing Arm Adjustments

The Donkey carries over the same swing-arm technology found in our Abram GHD 2.0, enabling the user to quickly shift the roller assembly / hyper handles to his or her desired setting, with 10 lock-in positions to choose from, as well as 3 height settings. Adjustments can be made simply by pulling and placing the included pop pin, making the machine quickly customizable to any athlete, even in a busy training space.

Quality Construction
3

Quality Construction

This 500 LB behemoth is manufactured in the USA and built on a rock solid foundation of 3x3” 11-gauge steel in a Signature Texture Black powdercoat finish with laser-cut Rogue branding. It’s a hybrid that sacrifices none of the qualities of its parent machines, with a diamond-tread steel footplate, durable 5” diameter rollers, 3.5” thick primary padding, and 10.5” of loadable length on each hyper weight post.

Safety and Convenience
4

Safety and Convenience

A number of unique new features make the Donkey safer and easier to use, including 3x3 steps on both ends of the unit (for easier access to the pads) and rubber feet to protect your flooring and keep the unit stable. The Donkey’s 3.5” thick pads measures 34" across in total, with an extended lip in front (to protect users’ hips from making contact with any hard surfaces) and a curved design in back more suited to effective GHD movements. There is also a removable middle insert pad, giving male athletes greater comfort and freedom of movement when doing back extensions with their feet against the tread plate.

Training Benefits
5

Training Benefits

The Hyper portion of the Donkey has been approved by Louie Simmons himself as an effective tool for physical therapy, back rehab exercises, and for general strengthening of the hamstrings, glutes, and hips. A pair of axle collars and a Spud Inc Reverse Hyper Strap are included standard, offering quick set-ups for reverse hypers as well as pull-throughs, rows, and knee and triceps extensions. The addition of GHD exercises like GHD sit-ups, glute-ham raises, and hip and back extensions help actively train the spinal erectors, and make the Donkey a uniquely versatile and regimen-altering machine.

More versatile than you think.
I was on the fence about this product for at least 2 years. Back when I was first building my home gym (March 2020, like many others), I went with a rogue abram 2.0 GHD. I reasoned that the donkey was too expensive; however, I was wrong. Yes, it's a pricey investment, but everything on this machine is so much better. The GHDs are more challenging. The swivel is so much smoother. The reverse hyper has been a well worth addition to posterior chain training. Back extensions feel so much better on a flat, thick pad. Many people criticize the lack of handles, but I have found it to be very convenient. I can do horizontal/seal rows without having my elbows or the bar/dumbbells hit the handles. Also, the pendulum itself is so useful. There's enough room to attach a carabiner and perform countless exercises on it (pull throughs, rows, shrugs, curls). If you're on the fence and have the room/funds, invest in this piece. You won't regret it.

Happy with the Donkey, with a few caveats
This was purchased for a commercial fitness facility. Build quality is excellent, but it's not quite commercial grade. The adjustment of the foot plate isn't as smooth as other GHB's we've had and the rollers are covered in a sticky foam coating instead of vinyl. Getting feet in and out can be difficult. It also lacks the handles that the other Reverse Hyper has so getting up from a hip extension can be difficult. There's also a gap between the cross beam you step on and off of that could use a fill-in to create a more stable surface. That all said, we're VERY happy with the multi-use aspect of the Donkey and for $3000, it's an outstanding value. For us, making it a $4000 piece with some of the above issues addressed would be more than reasonable.

Amazing but could use some updates
I’ve had this for about a month and love it. There are a few things that I could see some updates for. The first being what most people have said, which is adding some sort of handles on the front posts to get up from back extensions on. Secondly I would love to see the weight posts be chrome. The plates spin when doing hypers, and I’d personally like to eliminate as much wear on the inside of my competition plates as possible. The spacing of the pads is decent, but I think that the space/insert should be a little wider, as I still have issues as a guy with discomfort on back extensions. Dismounting is going to be a little harder than a normal GHD just because the pad is so high off the floor, but I’ve hit my hip on the top of the outside where the rogue plate is at least 6-7 times since I got it a month ago. I’m not sure how to remedy that. I’m also 6’2 and I have the foot plate at the second closest setting, so I’m not sure how usable this would be for normal sized people, and I doubt my wife who is 5 foot will be able to use this after she has our baby, because there’s probably not enough space to get her feet in and have her hips at the edge of the pad. All of those things aside this is a great product and I use it literally every day, even when I’m not training. It’s insanely sturdy, and I’ve done hypers with 2 45’s and a 35 each side and there was zero shaking. No product is perfect but I love mine, and I hope to see them revisit this in the future to fix some of the common issues people bring up in reviews

Great Machine
I was looking for something to do core and posterior chain work for my boys. This machine seemed to be the best fit and I am very happy with it. It’s is extremely well built. It’s easy to adjust and does everything I wanted. It’s big but better than two machines to do the same thing.

Rogue Donkey
I had a GHD and a reverse hyper, sold both and upgraded to the Donkey. Saved a bunch of space in my garage and the machine itself is amazing. It is a cliché but it is true built like a tank! It took me hours to put together but after that it's all great!

Very good combo
Converted a Z hyper to Donkey. Conversion is easy, save for the last step installing the pads. For some reason, and I suspect it is the slightly different geometry, GH raises on this are a lot harder than on an Abrams. Maybe closer to Nordic curl. Be advised.

Great piece of equipment
It seems this is really built for the male physique. Also for back extension it really needs some handles on it for people that do not have the strength capacity to lift themselves up. Other than that most of the men in my gym are benefiting this.

Great machine, could use some tweaking
I love this machine it's helping me rehab my lower back. I wish they included additional collars so I could position weight plates so they don't bang into my shins at the top of the motion.
