The Castro Bar
The Castro Bar
Product Description
For athletes who prefer the classic look and feel of a bare steel barbell, the Rogue Castro Bar belongs in your arsenal. The texture of the signature knurling allows for a firm grip without feeling sharp, and the bare steel won't get slippery in sweaty hands--making the Castro Bar less dependent on chalk than many coated bars. With a minimum tensile strength of 190,000 PSI, the Castro Bar has the perfect balance of whip for the Olympic lifter and rigidity for the powerlifter. And its lifetime warranty against bending* ensures it can stand up to daily abuse—whether in a garage gym, college weight room, or professional training facility.
A bare steel bar like this one does require a different level of upkeep than most oxide, zinc or Cerakote finished bars. Occasionally brushing the Castro Bar down with 3-in-1 oil will help prevent oxidation buildup and create a nice patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really produces an unmatched feel.
CRAFTED FOR EXCELLENCE IN COLUMBUS, OH
This 28.5MM bar is machined and individually assembled in Columbus, OH, and features the same quality U.S. steel, bronze bushings, and dual knurl marks as our flagship Ohio Bar.
ENHANCED FEATURES
Best In Class Durability: Engineered to withstand the increased demands that functional movements and Olympic lifts place on barbells today through overhead drops. Read more here.
2X Quieter Performance: Refined with even stricter tolerances, precision-machined bronze bushings fit tighter around the shaft, and improved internal sleeve tolerances dampen sound and eliminate unwanted movement, ensuring a smoother and more stable lift.
UNMATCHED REPUTATION
For over a decade, the Rogue 20KG Ohio Bar has set the industry standard as the ultimate multi-purpose barbell. With the latest edition, we've taken our flagship barbell to new heights, delivering our most dynamic and precision machined Ohio Bar to date. The Ohio Bar represents more than just the Rogue brand. Its name is a testament to where we work, who we are, and the pride we feel in continuing to make the best weightlifting bars in the market.
Like any fine piece of machined steel, a bare steel barbell will require some upkeep. Occasionally brushing the bar down with 3-in-1 oil or WD-40 will create a beautiful patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really does produce an unmatched feel.
Please Note: A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Castro bar will be given to the families of two fallen Navy SEALs. See their story here.

Best In Class Durability
With a F-Scale rating of F8-R, the Castro Bar is among the most durable barbells in its class. By optimizing materials and manufacturing techniques, the Castro Bar has been engineered to withstand the increased demands that CrossFit, Olympic lifting and functional fitness place on barbells today. Low Profile Sleeve Design
Our new low-profile sleeve design makes loading and unloading plates easier than ever. Bare steel shaft is paired with matching bare steel sleeves for a consistent look end to end.
2X QUIETER PERFORMANCE
Using precision machining, we are able to tighten the fit of the sleeve on the shaft which means a smoother spin, a more connected feeling while lifting and significant noise reduction.
How It's Made
Rogue Work Hardening
Our patented, proprietary process more than doubles the durability and lifespan of the barbell shaft compared to our competitors.
State-of-the-art Gauging
We use gauging normally employed in the aerospace industry to ensure that every bar that makes it to a customer is exactly as designed.
Barbell Durability
RUST RESISTANCE
The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.
BARBELL DURABILITY
The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.
F SCALE™ APPLICATION
How a barbell is used will affect its durable lifespan and it's a key factor in determining what type of F Rating™ might be suitable for your gym's needs. This graph correlates the F Rating™ of a barbell with different types of usage in order to predict the durable lifespan. Using this data, we are able to make recommendations on what F Rating™ is appropriate for different training situations. With a rating of F8-R, the Castro Bar is rated to last 16 years in a high volume CrossFit gym and will outlast a lifetime of lifting in an Olympic Weightlifting gym, a home gym or a Powerlifting gym.

MULTI-PURPOSE BARBELL
Designed to work well for both Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting and everything in between.
F-RATING
Our barbells are tested by a third-party to determine their F-Rating, or fatigue resistance, which is a measured representation of the durability of the barbell.
BARBELL BUSHINGS
Precision bronze bushings provide reliable fast spin while being exceptionally durable when subjected to impact from being dropped.
WHAT IS ROGUE WORK HARDENING?
Rogue Work Hardening (RWH) is our patented process for treating the shafts of our barbells to improve their durability.
BARBELL WEIGHT
20KG is the standard for most Powerlifting Federations, Men's Olympic Weightlifting and Men's CrossFit competitions.
BARBELL WHIP
The amount of springback provided by the bar that can be used by the lifter to increase the weight they can lift in dynamic movements.
BARBELL DIAMETER
The 28.5mm diameter falls directly between the 28mm Olympic and 29mm Powerlifting standard diameters.
MADE IN THE U.S.A.
Made from US steel, the Rogue Ohio Bar is machined and assembled at the Rogue factory in Columbus, OH.
TENSILE STRENGTH
Expressed in PSI, tensile strength measures the maximum weight a barbell can support before deforming. The 190K tensile strength falls within the optimal range of not bending under normal use, yet not been inflated to the point that it will shorten the life of the bar.
BARBELL KNURLING EXPLAINED
Our signature knurl, designed for multi-purpose use, provides a firm grip without being abrasive. This falls in the middle of the road on the knurl scale, striking a balance without being overly aggressive or passive.
