The Castro Bar

For athletes who prefer the classic look and feel of a bare steel barbell, the Rogue Castro Bar belongs in your arsenal. This polished 28.5MM bar is machined and individually assembled in Columbus, OH, and features the same quality U.S. steel, bronze bushings, and dual knurl marks as our flagship Ohio Bar. The texture of the signature knurling allows for a firm grip without feeling sharp, and the bare steel won't get slippery in sweaty hands--making the Castro Bar less dependent on chalk than many coated bars.

With a minimum tensile strength of 190,000 PSI, the Castro Bar has the perfect balance of whip for the Olympic lifter and rigidity for the powerlifter. And its lifetime warranty against bending* ensures it can stand up to daily abuse—whether in a garage gym, college weight room, or professional training facility.

A bare steel bar like this one does require a different level of upkeep than most oxide, zinc or chrome plated bars. Occasionally brushing the Castro Bar down with 3-in-1 or WD-40 will help prevent rusting and create a nice patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really produces an unmatched feel.

F Scale™
The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

Oxidation Rate
The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

Please Note: Like any fine piece of machined steel, a bare steel barbell will require some upkeep. Occasionally brushing the bar down with 3-in-1 oil or WD-40 will create a beautiful patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really does produce an unmatched feel.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Please Note: A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Castro bar will be given to the families of two fallen Navy SEALs. See their story here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It’s here. And, it’s great! I bought this about a month ago. It arrived via courier and was opened immediately. I love it. The bare steel is exactly what I was looking for. The knurl is aggressive and is a welcome change from my old cheap barbell. Thanks Rogue!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Bar Pros: Fantastic rotation, bare steel feel, FR-8 (highest durability rating), RWH (Rogue work hardening), Fit and finish (looks beautiful), good looking end cap. Could be better: Knurling (too mild for me - but pets may like it)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice All Around Bar Picked up the Castro Bar 2.0 and it is a great all around bar in the bare steel finish. It is basically an Ohio Bar in bare steel which is what I wanted. I would love for them to offer this bar with center knurling to help keep the bar secure to your back during squats. Without the center knurling it tends to get pretty slippery on your back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of the best -- feels and looks excellent! I admit that I agonized a bit over choosing this bar over one with a coating. I wanted one that was F8-R rated, so that eliminated all the stainless shaft barbells. I almost bought the black oxide Ohio Bar, but reasoned that I would like to develop my own patina. The cerakoat bars were intriguing, but again, I wanted something that would show off a bit of character. In the end, I am very pleased I went with my gut and got the Castro. Knowing a portion of the sale went to helping two Vet's families was a definite plus. When mine came in, I wiped it down with some rubbing alcohol and then a diluted solution of 44/40 cold blue liquid. Then, I cleaned/wiped with Ballistol. I keep a rag that gets a spray of Ballistol once in a while near my bench and I use it to wipe down the bar after each use. It's not been very long, but it already looks like it's been in my gym for years. Long live bare steel bars!
