SquatMax MD (Rack Mount)

The Squatmax-MD is a patented belt squat system developed by Brian Henesey of OverAchieve Sports and Speed (creator of the Multi Belt and Henny Strap System) and manufactured here in Ohio by Rogue.

Our rack-mounted version of the Squatmax-MD features an adjustable, laser-cut steel platform (18” to 24” height) with a loading pin that moves up and down a special guide rod welded to the base of the unit. This design keeps the weight load in the vertical plane as you train, creating a pure, free-weight movement that truly mimics the optimal lower body activation of a traditional barbell back squat—with little or no need for supervision.

Because the weight can be centered directly under the lifter’s hip musculature with band resistance, the Squatmax-MD also reduces the shearing effect on the lower back that’s sometimes created by lever-arm and pulley-based belt squat systems. This difference, combined with the system’s mobility and decompression benefits (“MD”), make the Squatmax a great option not only for athletes with back/shoulder limitations, but any gym looking for a safe, effective, spotter-free alternative to barbell back squats.

How To Use: The Squatmax-MD will mount to most standard 2x3” or 3x3” power racks or squat stands that feature two vertical uprights between 27" and 50" apart. Once set up, users can add plates to the loading pin while it is in the upright position and supported by the unit’s latch plates. Wearing the included Rogue Multi Belt with carabiner, users can then connect to the loading pin, pick up the weight slightly, and turn the 1x1 square tube steel handles away to hinge the latch plates out of the way and begin squatting.

Key Features of the Squatmax-MD

  • 1A True Free-Weight Squat

Rather than a fixed leverage arm or pulley cable, the Squatmax-MD utilizes an open platform with a loading pin (connected to a Rogue Multi Belt via carabiner) that moves up and down a solid steel guide rod. With this free weight design, there is no neuromuscular disconnect between the athlete and the load tension, making the movement a far more accurate re-creation of a standard barbell back squat. As a free weight squat, the lifter is also able to work within their natural range of motion, maximizing focus on the hips, glutes, and hamstrings..

  • 2Rack Compatible

This version of the Squatmax-MD is designed to be mounted to an existing 2x3” or 3x3” power rack or stand; any unit with uprights that are between 27" and 50" apart (this could include Rogue Infinity, Monster Lite, and Monster Series racks). For mounting the belt squat unit to the rack, we’ve included 3/8" thick steel clamps with UHMW covers to protect the finish of the uprights. Rack-mounting not only ensures a solid, stable set-up, but is also a helpful space-efficient solution for garage gyms and large-scale facilities, alike.

  • 3Quality Rogue Construction

Adapting Brian Henesey’s innovative design, Rogue’s American-made Squatmax-MD easily ranks with the best built and most versatile belt squat systems in the industry. The standing platform (44.75” L x 29” W) is supported by 2x2” 7-gauge steel legs, and is adjustable by 2” increments from 18” to 24” in height. The 19” loading pin is supported by two 5/16" thick x 2" wide latch plates and includes welded-on band pegs for quick-attach band resistance movements. A solid steel guide rod, welded to the base of the Squatmax, keeps the loading pin moving in the vertical plane as you train. A texture black finish completes the look and ensures reliable grip/traction.

  • 4Mobility + Decompression

The Squatmax-MD belt squat has rehab and injury prevention benefits for athletes dealing with upper back / shoulder issues (since there is no barbell), as well as lower back issues (less shearing impact than other hip belt squats). Better still, because the weight load is perfectly centered when using band resistance, there is a beneficial traction effect as the lower vertebrae are pulled apart (decompressed), as well as a dynamic, mobilizing stretch of the hip flexors. This mobility + decompression gives the Squatmax the “MD” in its name.

  • 5What's Included

Along with the platform, base, loading pin, guide rod, latch plates and handles, all orders ship standard with rack-mounting clamps, one Rogue Multi Belt, a carabiner, and a narrow-stance plate that can be dropped in on top of the platform. The narrow-stance plate allows users to place their feet closer together when performing movements (only steel 25LB plates or smaller can be used for loading when the narrow stance plate is installed).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best belt squat on the marke for squatting period! Pros - It doesn’t take up nearly as much space as other belt squat models. -Feels just like a squat should because of the stright line of drive (unlike most lever based systems which pull you forward) - The lifter doesn’t have to load the thing up with a ton of plates to get anything out of it. -The cost (you just aren’t going to find something as good of quality and as effective for this price simple as that) Cons -The versatility. Not to say that the squat max is not versatile Because it can be used for other movements such as the good morning, the deadlift or even a split squat. However it will not be as versatile as say a pulley based model if you are looking to do movements such as marching Conclusion In conclusion when it comes to squatting you can’t beat the squat max-md

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome alternative to a stand alone belt squat I bought this on a tuesday and it arrived that friday. Set up was easy but it came with no instructions. I just looked at the pictures on rogue and a video online. I connected it to a 3 x 3 rack with no issues. One of the holes where the legs connect to the base was not big enough so I had to shave a bit off of the bolt that connected the base. It is fine now. I used both the rhino and now the squat max and love both machines equally. I went with the squatmax because of the footprint. I am very happy with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I first used a Squatmax belt squat several years ago when I was still playing professional baseball and I always considered it one of the best lower body strengthening devices I got to use during my playing career. So I was glad to see this smaller rack attachment of it now being made. I purchased it for my home gym and glad to say it came as advertised. Small footprint and easy to set up. In my opinion, it is still one of the best lower body only focused strengthening tools out there. 1. Feels like an actual squat movement without any stress on my low back. 2. Small footprint 3. Sturdy and well built

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works good for squatting Ive had the squarmax for about a week now. I will start with the good setup isnt hard at all and it hangs on the back of my rack so it doesnt take alot of space. Squats feel great and two days from a light workout my lower body is feeling it. There are some negatives. First i think the belt is horrible it feels bulky and cheap. The belt rides up when trying to move with it. Additionally the design of the loops make it hard to adjust the carabiner. Also the designer has shown other examples of how he uses a different connector to emphasize posterior or anterior strain but that does not come with the machine. (It seems misleading). Next the handles feel very loose in the slots which gives the machine a cheap feeling. Finally the band attachments under neath seem to be very sharp and have already started to tear my bands.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good accessory to squats Bought this after reading many reviews (both from peers with the squatmax as well as from the actual company). If you’re suffering from low back pain due to ruptured disks, this belt squat will still cause spinal pain. I ruptured L5/S1 18 months ago, and even tho it doesn’t compress your spine like a traditional barbell back squat, there is still pelvic tilt that occurs due to the belt, and therefore strains your lower vertebrae regardless of how much weight you’re using. Also, after 3 weeks of use, I’ve noticed it provides minimal spinal decompression, even tho Squatmax claims that it will help with decompression (keep in mind I worked up to a set of 5 w/405). Lastly, if you’re NOT used to a sumo stance squat, do not waste your time with this as your stance needs to be approximately 4-6” wider than a 45 pound plate to accommodate the plates width, and even though it does come with an insert to allow for a slightly narrower stance, this insert only allows for 25 pound plates, which means that you can only load Submaximal weight with said insert (granted, there are also band pegs underneath to add more resistance). For the price, it’s definitely a great option, but I do not feel that Rogue or Squatmax are very transparent regarding stance width and do believe that both companies are slightly misleading regarding people using this that experience prior chronic low back pain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The machine itself is great Just know if you buy this you need to buy two rubber bands and you have to go to squat Max’s website for the Instructions to put it together. Rogue as of yet has added it to the website.
